About the Job
Cicerone is a leading publisher of guidebooks for walkers, trekkers, mountaineers and cyclists in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Based in Milnthorpe, the small team publish, market and sell Cicerone’s guides through retail and wholesale accounts, bookshops, outdoor stores and online both in Britain and internationally.
Reporting to the Sales Director, this is a full-time role.
The role has two main functions:
To provide the Sales Director with full sales and trade marketing support to increase the rate of sale across the full range of Cicerone titles which will include:
Regular title analysis, in time helping to identify and contact target customers and areas of potential.
Preparation and execution of regional mailings to accounts such as tourist information centres, bookshops and outdoor stores.
Ensuring that online retailers have the relevant titles listed on their website. Providing bibliographic information and cover images when required.
Helping customers find the best way to source our guidebooks.
Helping to build the database of trade contacts we have in our contact management system. This will involve calling to check the correct contact details, and establish how they prefer to be contacted, e.g. newsletter, catalogue, visit.
Managing online processes at Amazon, Apple and Google for the sale of eBooks delivered through our “digital warehouse”. Assisting with the development of our printed and email trade newsletter.
Managing inventory stock levels in the US and other consignment warehouses. In time having full responsibility for a range of trade customers.
Helping develop our online presence, by uploading overview maps, sample pages, and adjusting text where relevant on websites such Amazon, Bertrams (a specialist trade book wholesaler) and various wholesale partners around the world.
Researching relevant trade customers to contact with details of new titles and editions throughout the year.
To take full responsibility for all general office administration and customer service requirements to include:
Dealing directly with our end users by phone, email and occasionally face-to-face. Providing help and first-level technical support to customers for eBook, gpx file and route downloads.
Monitoring the day-to-day performance of our distributor in Glasgow and other Cicerone distribution operations around the world.
Monitoring the accurate distribution of bibliographic (book title and detail) information from our database which includes description, cover images, RRP, publication dates and more. Ensuring this information has been correctly distributed electronically, and sorting out issues as and when they arise.
Handling all general office administration, and day-to-day running of the office.
The role is interesting and highly varied, and you’ll need to develop a broad understanding of what is going on throughout the business so that you can support and contribute to its many aspects.
The team is highly capable. You will need to be confident, highly organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to easily prioritise varied workloads.
It’s a highly computerised environment, so being confident with online databases, and programmes such as Word and Excel is crucial.
