Award winning children’s publisher, Barrington Stoke, is looking for a Publishing Director to join our dynamic team. We publish about 60 new books per year, many written by big name authors, published to appeal to reluctant readers.
Reporting to the Chairman, our new Publishing Director will work closely with the Sales & Marketing Director and Finance and Operations Director on the Barrington Stoke board, helping to inform and lead the strategic direction of the company.
As well as commissioning profitable, quality fiction from both new and existing authors, and exploiting our existing content base, you will manage a small editorial and production team, supporting them to develop and deliver an impactful and creative publishing programme.
You will have an excellent understanding of the children’s market, and demonstrate a passion for encouraging children to read.
You will have commissioning experience which will demonstrate a strong track record of successful publishing and a creative flair for design. We are looking for someone who will also be able to recognize and seize opportunities to develop our publishing programmes.
You will be able to plan and monitor costs, finding acceptable financial solutions to the programme, working towards budgets and targets. You will be clear when it comes to scheduling and prioritizing and used to dealing with suppliers (such as outsourced editors and designers).
Ideally, you will have previous experience of leading and managing a team.
This is expected to be a part time position, 3-4 days per week depending on experience. It is based in our Edinburgh office.
