Senior Commissioning Editor
£30,000 - £40,000

About the Job

Bristol University Press (BUP), the new university press announced in October 2016 encompassing the award-winning Policy Press (PP), is looking for an ambitious commissioning editor to join their team and build a new Law list which draws on the strengths of The Press’ existing publishing programme.
The Press is looking to appoint at Senior Commissioning Editor (SCE) level and is willing to consider part-time (60 or 80%) for the right candidate.
The SCE will drive the development of the new list, proactively acquiring and managing new print and digital projects and ensuring high quality work is delivered on time, to specification, and to budget. They will devise a strategy for the list which is ambitious and engages with both the legal community and a wider audience. Covering areas such as human rights and socio-legal studies, we envisage that it will align with our focus on social justice and addressing the global challenges facing society now and in the future.
The successful candidate will be an energetic professional who is determined to make a mark in publishing and in the wider world of academic and professional scholarship and understanding. They will share BUP and PP's commitment to world-class scholarship, global impact and author care and have strong organisational skills, the ability to juggle competing priorities, to think critically, and problem solve.
Proven experience of commissioning in academic publishing is essential with a proven track record of managing and developing commercially successful lists. UK and international travel will be required.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join an expanding team in the creation of a dynamic, new not-for-profit scholarly press based at one of the world’s top universities, in the heart of one of the UK’s most creative and vibrant cities.
