The Product Management Department is looking for a new Product Manager to take on our Business and Management products on the Learning Pillar side of the business. Do you want a varied role, with wide ranging responsibilities? Are you excited about product development and the changing ways in which we deliver content to our audiences? OVERVIEW
In this role, you would be the Product Manager for three SAGE products: SAGE Business Cases, SAGE Business Researcher and CQ Researcher. Each is at different stages of development.
You will work with partners in Editorial to create and deliver practical commercial propositions, and with partners in Marketing to deliver the product that the customer and the user needs.
You will lead the execution of product development, delivering high quality business plans, and pursuing necessary product improvements, maintaining the team’s focus on commercial success.
You will work to identify market needs and respond quickly and leading the efforts of your product team.
You will think big about the opportunities for your products, while focusing on practical, achievable deliverables to improve and grow SAGE’s online offering.
You will show autonomy in driving product improvements and new product launches through the appropriate processes, and you will be accountable for your decision making.
You will demonstrate a deep curiosity in all aspects of your product, working diligently to build a strong knowledge of the target users and buyers. You will support the evolution of the online content strategy for SAGE, defining SAGE’s unique value proposition in the market, working with partners across the business.
This position is part of the global Product Management Department at SAGE, working in a dynamic part of the business. Our aim is to increase SAGE’s online product portfolio for our library customers. Products for the library market at SAGE are developed with external technology partners.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this post, you will be required to:
Develop and utilise strong market knowledge. You will interact regularly with customers and the wider market to ensure that product ideas resonate with libraries and faculty. This includes setting market research priorities, evaluating new business models, understanding industry-wide subscription trends, gathering and testing new product and enhancement ideas, joining sales calls, defining usability testing questions, and overseeing competitor research.
Analyse Researchers/SAGE Business Cases and how they are used. Build and maintain a deep understanding of who is using your products, by analyzing usage data and conducting market research. You will use analytics tools, and be comfortable drawing conclusions from data, and using these conclusions to drive decision making.
You will develop use cases and clearly communicate user stories and market findings throughout SAGE and use them to drive ongoing development to meet market needs.
Build relationships with your partners in editorial, marketing, sales and project management and lead meetings involving these groups. You will be required to generate buy in for your ideas and maintain confidence within the business about in your products.
Continue to deliver improvements for SAGE Business Researcher, CQ Researcher and SAGE Business Cases through the SAGE product development process. Define and lead enhancements to each product, building out the product concept, defining web requirements, managing team meetings and presenting recommendations on key product decisions.
Constantly generate and gather ideas for improving your products, and then ruthlessly prioritize feature development and product changes in line with the core product vision and expected commercial impact.
Manage the SAGE Business Researcher, CQ Researcher and SAGE Business Cases roadmaps, prioritizing platform improvements based on business needs and communicating rationale clearly across SAGE. Get buy-in from stakeholders for priorities and level of platform investment.
Be the voice of the product within the business. Ensure regular meaningful product updates, presentations and reports to relevant project teams and stakeholders, including product reports, roadmap updates, product P & Ls, and competitive information. You need to be comfortable calling into sales meetings and be able to impact on meetings with customers.
Master SAGE processes. Contribute to ongoing refinement of processes and systems to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of product development at SAGE.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree required; UK - 2:1 or higher
2 - 3 years online product development experience
Experience working in academic publishing preferred
Experience working with subscription products preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to speak, write, listen, and work at a computer. No repetitive tasks required. You will be expected to travel to SAGE’s offices and to attend industry conferences and training as required.
