Thames & Hudson is the leading global publisher of illustrated books on the visual arts, history, archaeology and popular culture. We are seeking a bright, resourceful graduate to support a senior commissioning editor on our history and archaeology list.
This is a varied role requiring excellent organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced working environment. You should be enthusiastic, highly organized, self-motivated and responsible, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously as well as part of a small team. You will have a keen eye for detail and a passion for impeccable spelling and grammar.
The main part of the role will be to provide secretarial and administrative support to a senior commissioning editor who works remotely, so much of this work will be done by phone. This will include managing email correspondence, preparing publishing proposals, researching competing titles, managing the submission of text and picture materials from authors, and organizing couriers. There will also be scope to gain editorial experience on other parts of the T&H list. In addition, you will provide a couple of hours’ switchboard cover per week.
The role would suit a recent Humanities graduate, particularly in History, Archaeology or Classics, who is keen to gain a foothold in publishing. It offers an exciting chance to work on a variety of projects in a highly creative environment in central London. Excellent keyboard skills and a good working knowledge of Word and Excel are essential.
