Head of Sales – Watkins Media Ltd
Watkins Publishing, Nourish Books, Angry Robot & Repeater
Watkins Media Ltd (WML) are looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic andself-motivated head of sales to work across its book publishing imprints in our friendly Islington offices. Managing a small team and reporting to the managing director, this is a varied and busy hands-on selling role. Watkins Media is an independently owned media company specialising in book and magazine publishing, retail and digital content.
Key Duties
Management, liaison and custom selling of frontlist and backlist to all in-house key accounts, trade, non-trade, online, wholesale
Initiating and brokering promotional and special sales for home and international customers and negotiating remainder deals
Maintaining and managing relationships with our UK distributor
Liaising with our freelance field sales teams for the UK, Ireland and export territories
Managing the day-to-day running of the UK sales, US sales and foreign rights teams
Preparing sales pitches and producing sales reports
Forecasting and managing sales budgets and margin targets
The successful candidate will be proactive and organised with excellent relationship-building and communication skills. They will have considerable experience of hands-on selling across fiction & non-fiction, illustrated and black and white, as well as experience in budget management. They must be able to work autonomously and be good at prioritising work under pressure.
Skills, knowledge and experience:
Knowledge and experience of selling fiction and non-fiction
A good level of numeracy, with the ability to translate financial goals into effective campaigns
Proven ability to manage multiple project simultaneously
Proven staff and team management skills, developing team members effectively
Excellent negotiating skills
Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
